To celebrate being almost done with Valhalla, I would like to offer this: events of Valhalla are a deviation from future Juno/Minerva/Tinia saw. Desmond, while burning, saw an opportunity and, wanting to live, reaches back and does some tweaks of his own. The whole Loki surviving thing? His doing. Basim is aware of who gave him a chance to do what he did. Future ark for Basim ends up in Desmond being resurrected
Additional ask from @fanworldbuildingfun:
(just a small clarification for previous ask: basically, Loki is indebted to Desmond for his survival; pays back by setting in motion Desmond's return. Potential way to do it? Remove the "new hook" of the reality (also known as 'main character'. Let the guy be selfish, he deserves it)
It is possible that Basim knew about Desmond (or, to be more exact, the Reader) since there was a way to reach the Reader using Yggdrassil (most probably because the Norns read the Calculations just like the Reader).
So, in this scenario, Desmond doesn’t have to tweak anything if you want to stay close to canon. We have no idea if Basim even knows where his children are at the moment, but the Reader, with the Calculations in hand, can give him all the information he needed, for example: the correct set of events that must happen for Basim to be reunited with his children.
And, considering Basim is a Sage who has completely assimilated with an Isu’s memories, Desmond wouldn’t trust him completely, especially after the whole Juno debacle. Even if Basim himself can be trusted as a fellow Hidden One/Assassin, Loki cannot.
Desmond would not risk it.
So they make a deal.
Desmond will ensure Basim’s revival and give him the exact events that must play out for him to be revived and reunited with Midgarsormen.
But his other two children?
Desmond will only share that information if Basim does as he asked.
In exchange for Hel’s location, Basim must ensure certain events play out as they should and it will end with Layla’s revival.
Then, in exchange for Fenrir’s location, Layla will give him all the information he needs to ensure another set of certain events will play out and it will end with Desmond’s revival.
Basim knows he’s being used but this is the best course of action he could take and maybe he is even a bit fond of Desmond’s audacity to actually do this kind of shit to him.
(Removing the ‘new hook’ could be one of those events as well and, of course, finally keeping the world safe from whatever Isu or sun-related world-ending event that the Reader was trying to find a way out of from the very beginning)
You know what would be funny?
Instead of the plot twist being Desmond and Layla were actually the ‘reincarnation’/’Sage’ of Fenrir and Hel, they’re the reincarnation of Narfi and Váli (the children Loki had with Sigyn who was supposed to be Loki's loyal wife but their relationship is tainted by modern media into a more abusive/toxic kind of relationship which sucks)
OR
Desmond and Layla could be the reincarnation/Sages of Sigyn and Váli themselves with this entire thing being Desmond’s way to avenge Loki’s actions even though his memories of Sigyn loves Loki too much that she forgives him and understands. Well, Desmond understands it alright but that doesn’t mean he’ll forgive Loki/Basim like his past Isu-self, especially since Loki’s relationship with Angrboda/Aletheia is the trigger that destroyed their family in the first place.
The main idea is that Desmond is making Basim/Loki work his ass off to reunite with his ‘preferred’ children as a way to punish Basim/Loki for focusing so much on his children with his mistress (which is what Aletheia is in AC canon) and forgetting about, you know, HIS OTHER CHILDREN (including Sleipnir)? And Basim doesn’t realize that Desmond is the reincarnation of Sigyn/Narfi because of he didn't think the reincarnation could be of a different gender (which is canon thanks to Eivor) and because he only knew Narfi as a child. Basim feels Layla is familiar but doesn’t know why and Váli died as a child as well.
(Additional info: the only thing we have on Isu Sigyn is that Aletheia/Angrboda tells Loki that if Sigyn learns about Fenrir, their other children will be in danger too which sets Sigyn up as a more malevolent character... which isn't really much of a stretch considering all Isus are dick but it's like that frustrating misrepresentation of Persephone and Hades' relationship in AC Odyssey all over again and aaaaaahhhhhhhh)

kennings can be such a tender thing
they can also be kind of rude
#norse mythology#read a thought that kennings are used so abundantly because people were that familiar with the stories#haven’t been the same since#i’ll be reading a poem and they’ll call loki ‘thor’s friend’ one line and randomly ‘the coward’ in the next#love all the different names…#they called thor ‘the giantess’s friend’ which is Different. in a good way#whenever i read kennings for sigyn i lose my mind a little#i i need more poetry. and prose as well. i need it all. i need to learn every ancient language and also some modern ones immediately.#‘gold is called- [lists ninety things]” hel YEAH it is tell me all about it#‘here is how to periphrase xyz’ and then you tell me a story explaining why?? thank you snorri this is all i need in life#shout out to that one guy who interchangeably used ‘loke’ ‘loptur’ and ‘loðurr’ in his poem. and then also called utgard-loki ‘loke’-#—in the second half. inclusion of lodurr (who is often regarded as a Different Guy) really packed it in xD but the translators clarified-#-‘Asa-Loki’ in the annotations which was nice#i like when they use odin-names to mean ‘god’#or when they use anyone’s name in other context to mean warrior#and how that poet uses several random jotun-names interchangeably to refer to it utgard-loki’s disguise#anyway#kennings are cool#define them by their relationships and feats and stories i am SO here for it#ALSO THEY USED ‘sons of goats’ TO MEAN. YOU GUESSED IT. GOATS

I find Sigyn to be an interesting goddess because there is so much of her left to be interpreted. There is barely any mythology about her, which does leave a lot open for creative liberties when it comes to interpretations of her.
Sigyn can go from being a non-violent, sophisticated lady
Or
A loving wife who is stronged willed but enjoys the femmine and softer aspects of life
To a war-torn valkyrie and a victory goddess that stands for peace and loyalty
Or
Rather, a bit more violent type victory goddess who wants to see victory within battle and bloodshed (and may or may not be a little morally ambiguous)
There are so many different ways to portray her!
But one thing stays the same no matter what version of her there is , she will still always love Loki and her family 💛💚
I just wish modern media would stop treating Sigyn as the "abused wife" or the "other woman" when that doesn't speak to her character at all. Rather, those are just poor interpretations of her.

Why are Sigyn and Persephone never included in any modern media with their boys, you ask? Because Disney and Marvel are too cowardly to have their morally grey villain gods in healthy romantic relationships

ah, sigyn! if you have any tips on how to begin worship, i’d love to know, as i’ve been wanting to honor her for a while.
Hey, Nonny!
For me, I began worshipping her after Loki introduced us. It was incredibly difficult to find information on her, unfortunately. I ended up pulling most of my knowledge from the myths and what little else I could find on modern worship. I had found some interesting accounts of modern worship in localized Scandinavian communities, but I can't remember where I found that source. 💀
When reaching out to her, I'd say just be yourself and be respectful, as you would with any deity. Personally, I got her a flower-scented candle, carved her name into the wax, lit some sweet-smelling incense, and lit the candle. I've heard from another Sigyn worship that you can do a ritual where you "hold the bowl" for her, so to speak. This is done by filling a bowl with water and holding it in your hands at her altar for however long you'd like. In this way, it was explained to me that you're holding the bowl of serpent venom for her to give her a break from tending to Loki. I don't personally believe in the myths in a literal sense, but I think the thought that goes into this ritual is what matters.
I suggest reaching out to @broomsick or @notthesomefather for more information; they both have some great resources on Norse deities, although I'm unsure if they know much about Sigyn either. I know Broom in particular is huge on learning about the historical worship of the Norse deities, so I wouldn't be surprised if they have at least something for you. c:
In regards to my personal associations with Sigyn, I'd be happy to share them, but be aware that they're mostly UPG based. Here are some things I associate with her:
Wolves (for her sons, Váli and Narfi); I usually depict them in wholesome, cute, or kind ways
Serpents (I don't usually give offerings related to them, though, due to their negative role in her myth)
Otters, orcas, polar bears/grizzly bears, reindeer/deer, and sometimes moths; most I associate due to their strong familial bonds and pack/herd nature
Bowls, especially ones with beautiful designs
Intricately designed plates, especially those that tell a story or are vintage
Her name is believed to mean "Friend of Victory", "Victory Friend", or something similar to the two; I therefore associate her strongly with victory and overcoming challenges
Family, familial love, loyalty, devotion, resilience, persistence, dedication, inner strength, compassion, caregiving, patience, and fidelity ← domains I associate with her
Light-colored flowers and plants
The colors light pink, gold, yellow light blue, and earthy shades of green and brown
Objects crafted out of love for another person or creature (drawings, wood carvings, crocheted works, etc.)
Family heirlooms, especially those passed down from a maternal figure
Childhood toys, stuffed animals, comfort items, etc. (bonus points if you tell her the stories behind them and why you loved them so much)
Poetry written for or about her, art made of or about her
Defensive weapons; a wolf may not attack humans often, but it still has teeth and claws if needed (protection of loved ones is my reasoning here)
Honey, herbal teas, warmed pastries, warmed breads, soups, and childhood comfort foods
It's not a big list of things, and like I said, it's mostly UPG, but I hope it helps. Take care, and I wish you the best, Nonny! 💚🖤

Loki Children Headcannons
Disclaimer: probably obvious from the fact I am talking about his children, but this is myth Loki, not Marvel’s bastardisation.
Sleipnir
Sleipnir is the eldest and is non-binary (he/they).
They are capable of taking on a human form and, when they do, they act like a diva who drinks way too much and complains about Odin using him as a steed.
If they existed in the modern day, they would absolutely dress like a young woman in the 30s – shawl and all.
Out of all the siblings, he is somehow the one with the highest alcohol tolerance.
Loki struggled at first to bond with Sleipnir because they were born out of r*pe (depending on how you interpret the only source we actually have on his conception, it could be seen as consensual or not. I personally think it was supposed to be non-consensual but, because the author was Christian, was vague about it).
Hel
Her dead side is only mildly blue and bruised looking like a fresh corpse when she is happy. It becomes more grotesque the angrier she gets. She becomes a full-on skeleton on that side when she is furious.
Hel is a lesbian and occasionally dates some of the women who die and come to Helheim but doesn’t have a consistent partner.
She is the youngest of all her siblings but ends up acting like the eldest because the only place they can reunite is in Helheim after Ragnarök where she is queen.
Loki, Sigyn and Angrboda still baby her though. She will never admit to secretly liking it. At least, not in front of her siblings.
Narfi
He is trans. I don’t know why, it's just vibes.
He is the elder of him and Vali.
He is studious and generally much softer and nicer compared to Vali.
He is a user of seidr (Norse magic) which he learnt from Loki and even Sigyn a bit. This made him a target of teasing as a child since seidr is a girl's thing.
He has his mother’s dark hair and darker skin with Loki’s green eyes.
Vali
He is gay but started off with a lot of internalised homophobia because he was teased for being the child of Loki, a notorious genderfluid in a culture that saw feminine men as a bad thing, and became unwilling to accept what could make him seem like a girl.
He is a warrior and is prone to rash decisions, making him a lot like Loki.
Vali and Loki have a bit of a difficult relationship since Vali is a mama’s boy but he is so similar to Loki in many ways (which a large part of him hates but the rest of him can’t help but love).
He is very muscular with Loki’s red hair and Sigyn’s black eyes. He has a long beard with he braids and decorates with Narfi’s help.
Jörmungandr
His first word was “Ssssssnack!”
He used to either curl up in front of the fire, against Fenrir or in Hel or Loki’s laps. Those memories are the only thing staving off his pain from being a land serpent in the cold depths of the ocean.
He and Fenrir used to get into play fights all the time as a pup and hatchling and someone would always end up having to break them up before they broke something.
He can speak in human tongue, but not nearly as well as Fenrir. He is also the only non-human child of Loki who can’t take a human form.
Fenrir
He is a cuddly teddy bear and used to sleep curled up in bed with one of his siblings or Loki, Angrboda or Sigyn.
He was the gentlest of his siblings before being chained up. Even after that, he remained shockingly kind but became very protective over his family as a result.
He has black fur with an almost purplish tinge and bright yellow eyes.
He is able to change his size, going from normal wolf to “able to eat the sun and moon” big.
He has a human form with long, thick black hair, sideburns and the same eerie yellow eyes.

how tall can a flame be?
Tumblr media
Censored, because I'd like my husband not to get sued over a kid learning dangerous things from him and having a lighter explode in their hand. However, with this trick, a flame can be about 8 cm high. He is currently holding it so close, I can smell his hair starting to smoulder. - Sigyn

I don't understand anti-logyn. I mean I totally get it if people aren't interested in Sigyn as a character or figure. But I don't understand the dislike of the ship. All these claims that Sigyn is a OC self insert is such unnecessary hate. The insistence on saying self-insert too. If I write a fanfic or make fan art of a MCU version Gwen Stacy is it self-insert because I'm making her the way I think is cool and want to see her?
I see people claim the Angrboda is so much better, and the she has a personality unlike Sigyn. What!? The only thing known about Angrboda is that she was scary, that's it. That's not a personality, there's just as little info on Angrboda as there is on Sigyn. And the claim that logyn shippers are anti-angrboda. I've never seen that, at worst Sigyn fans are a little salty Angrboda gets respected in adaptation and Sigyn never does, but the sentiment is never that Angrboda is a bad character herself. If anything it's the other way around. Sigyn is always put down in favor of Angrboda.
Maybe you ship Loki with someone else. Maybe you don't want Loki shipped with anyone. Or maybe you're just put off by the over enthusiasm. But to hate such a small fraction of the fandom because they want a rewrite a concept they feel was poorly done is so unnecessary. We know Loki was a crappy husband in Marvel, but that doesn't make Sigyn irredeemable as a concept.
People adore Hades and Persephone as a concept. A relationship that could only be considered good in comparison to the rest of Greek mythology. But people romanticize the hell out of it regardless. The modernize, they give Persephone agency and she really has none in the original myth.
There will always be people that ship Gwen and Peter over MJ even though In the canon it will always end with Peter and MJ. That's fine that's their business if they like Gwen more. Let fans have their thing.

This might catch me some flack, but honestly, I think it needs to be said , Loki x Sigyn isn't comparable to Hades and Persephone, in my opinion.
Persephone was kidnapped
Sigyn wasn't
Sigyn actively chose to stay with Loki and actually loved Loki with no strings attached
Persephone is forced to stay in the Underworld for 6 months with Hades
She never wanted to marry Hades
Sigyn wanted to marry Loki because if she didn't, I doubt she would have stuck by his side after her children were killed and he was imprisoned
Persephone is described as being distressed after being taken from her mother , refusing to eat and openly weeping
Sigyn not only chooses to stay with Loki but protects him from the snake's venom
Persephone didn't choose Hades, nor did she want to marry him. The fact she wandered into Underworld is a modern retelling
Demeter isn't an overbearing mother, and while Hades may be more a chill god tyen others and doesn't screw everything he sees. He is still not a good husband if he actively kidnaps his wife without her or her mother's consent (Yes , culturally speaking, he only needed Zeus's permission, but it doesn't negate the fact Zeus isn't the only one in the wrong here)
That all being said
I don't believe Loki x Sigyn is remotely comparable to Hades x Persephone. Both relationships are completely different from one another
A lot can be said by one scene, and everything people like to think Hades x Persephone is, can be found in Loki x Sigyn or even Eros x Psyche. Which are 10x more healthier relationships then Hades and Persephone.
But like I said ,these are my opinions

Alright BEAR WITH ME this will be the first of many posts
I am here with Norse stuff!! Let me preface this by saying: All of my interpretations are for an AU that started with The Last Unicorn (wack I know). The witch Mommy Fortuna’s whole character in the book (and movie) is one big Nordic reference and I LOVED it so much it pushed me to research and dive into the mythos and MAN it’s my new favorite thing!! Since the mythology exists in universe, and I made some ocs for The Last Unicorn, I thought I would expand upon the Norse Gods within the universe and well.. it sorta spiraled until I made EVERYTHING. But just keep the fact this is an au, and not me claiming any of this to be factual, nor is meant to be disrespectful. 🩷
OKAY— now to explain get ready for wall of text infodump abt this au!
I figured I’d start with some Loki. Well, and Baldur! I had the idea to sorta write Baldur’s death as a romantic crime of passion— Loki and Baldur are together and a very unfortunate set of events and Loki’s classic emotional impulsivity leads to his death. I THOUGHT I was so original, turns out, I go to the library about two weeks after I come up with this idea and find Melvin Burgesses’ “Loki” retelling and WHEN I TELL YOU I WAS SO MAD (not really but just wow lol) and we both sorta had this thought of these two as lovers. So- art of them above! Feel free to inquire about their dynamic. There’s also art of them in a modern au as well mixed in here.
Anyways to clear some things up— Loki is poly (as a lot of you guys headcanon her to be, and rightfully so imo) and is in a rather large and convoluted polycule in my au. Loki and Sigyn are still formally married and happy! (And have their two sons as you can see at the end! Tangent: for the whole “Vali” confusion— I renamed Loki and Sigyn’s son “Nari” as not to be confused with the OTHER Vali) Loki is also still with Angraboda as well, though they are barred from seeing eachother (Loki often is capable of circumventing this and sneaking away to Jotunheim) and they exchange letters and gifts. Baldur *is* happily married to Nanna (who btw is FTM trans in my au let’s go 🏳️‍⚧️) but is also one of Loki’s paramours. They all know about each other and coexist and happy polyamory cures my soul because as a polyamorous person myself with too many awful experiences with it, I just want to indulge in some happy poly rep. Example of their happiness is Baldur watching over Nari and Narfi in the art above and Loki having a ♥️ moment ♥️ about it.
I could talk about this forever but I have so much more art to post and things to explain but for now enjoy the art so far !! I’ll post more, I’m just trying to explain cohesively and it’s harder than I thought 😭😭
